I love Franschhoek, feels like your in a different country. Plenty of restaurants to choose from, for every taste and budget. Everything is in walking distance. Very nice shops to browse or buy some souvenirs. Plenty of wine farms around and if you don't want to drive take the famous Wine Tram.

The town is adorable and very safe. It is very french in the type of food served at several places (Reuben's is fantastic) and in many of the wineries. The town is known for it's gourmet restaurants and exquisite wines, all are affordable. And then there's the shopping! I like the small size of the town as it is intimate at 17,500 people and everyone is very friendly. It is very easy to walk around and the wine train is helpful for exploring the many wineries. We ended up staying an extra 2 days and would have loved to stay longer!

Our initial booking had a strong unpleasant odor and was surrounded by baboons, making it difficult to open the doors. However, the owners promptly responded and swiftly upgraded us to a fantastic property. Their professionalism was exemplary.

The main purpose of going to Franschhoek is to eat in some of the fabulous restaurants. Apart from that there is not a lot else to do and it can be very hot making it uncomfortable just to walk around the village. If self catering there are very good grocery stores including Woolworths Food and a relatively new and modern Checkers. There is also a large Pick n Pay but it is a much lower standard than the other two which are more up market.

We love Franschhoek and could easily have stayed longer. We love wandering along Huguenot Street with its many shops and small restaurants and the market on Saturdays and Sundays. We visited Haute Cabriere, Mont Rochelle and Mullineux & Leeu. We enjoyed an excellent lunch in all and had the best wine tasting in Mullineux & Leeu. On the way out we had “high tea” (at 10.30 am) in Orangerie at Le Lude which was quite amazing
